Valuation and Rating

Valuation and Rating

Terra Firma Chambers is a centre of excellence in valuation and rating matters. Practitioners have extensive experience and considerable expertise in all aspects of this area of practice, covering the whole range of rateable subjects including licensed premises, shops, offices, timeshare units, and industrial premises. They are frequently instructed in cases before Valuation Appeal Committees, which often involve the presentation of relatively technical evidence before a lay tribunal. They also appear in more difficult cases before the Lands Tribunal for Scotland and in appeals from these tribunals to the Lands Valuation Appeal Court in Edinburgh. It is recognised that, given the way the appeal system operates, cases require to be prepared at short notice. Members of Terra Firma Chambers are well placed to take on such cases, and in that regard it should be noted that members may be retained to act on behalf of assessors and appellants. This can be of considerable assistance to parties given the volume of cases passing through the system, and further details on such arrangements can be obtained from the Practice Manager. At any stage, members can give prompt, sound advice on all aspects of valuation and rating.
