Environmental law, whilst an important area of law in its own right, is often a topic associated with planning law and property development generally. With our reputation as the leading planning set in Scotland, our Counsel are extremely familiar with all aspects of environmental law related to planning matters, including SEA’s, EIA’s, conservation and habitats, and flooding.
However, the knowledge and experience of our members is not confined to the planning context. The areas which Terra Firma members have dealt with in recent years include a broad variety of regulatory issues, including advice and representation in enforcement proceedings, and licensing of controlled commercial and industrial activities. Other areas covered include the environmental information regime, contaminated land, the water environment, transfrontier shipment of waste, and common law aspects of environmental law such as the law of nuisance in Scotland.
Our aim is to provide practical and informed assistance for our clients. Terra Firma Chambers has more dual qualified members practicing at the English Bar and elsewhere than any other Scottish stable. This allows our members to develop greater experience than can be obtained otherwise. It also means our members are familiar with legislative, case-law and policy developments in the rest of the UK and Europe.
