Ryan specialises in commercial and public law, with a developing practice in contentious trusts and executries. Before calling to the Bar, Ryan gained experience in commercial litigation and property disputes at Ledingham Chalmers LLP.
His public law practice draws on experience at Westminster, Holyrood and in local government, which gives him a practical knowledge of how the decisions challenged in judicial review are reached.
Biography
Ryan specialises in commercial and public law, with a developing practice in contentious trusts and executries. Before calling to the Bar, he gained experience in commercial litigation and property disputes at Ledingham Chalmers LLP.
Ryan served for seven years in the Royal Air Force. He subsequently worked in both the House of Commons and the Scottish Parliament, and has been an elected councillor in Aberdeen since 2017, giving him close familiarity with the workings of central and local government.
As a solicitor, Ryan gained experience in disputes relating to contract, construction adjudications, debt recovery, dilapidations claims, and partnership and company law. He also acted in property claims and contentious executries. He appeared in the Sheriff Court and the All-Scotland Personal Injury Court, and has extensive experience of local authority committees, including planning committees.
