Biography:
Before being called to the Scottish Bar in 1986 Anthony had been admitted as a member of the Writers to the Signet, and was a full partner in an Edinburgh firm of solicitors (J & F Anderson WS) practising mainly in commercial/company work. He was admitted to the Bar in November 1986 having devilled to James Drummond Young (now the Hon Lord Drummond Young) and Malcolm Scott QC. Lord Drummond Young is now the nominated judge for public trust applications at the Court of Session.
With over 20 years of experience at the Bar, Anthony has developed a practice covering in particular the areas of commercial, company, trusts, planning, environmental issues, and charity law and also advises extensively on valuation for rating matters and on tax/VAT areas. He was from 1991 to 2003 the Standing Counsel for the Scottish Charities Office (now disbanded and replaced by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator). In that capacity he advised and acted in several very high profile cases involving Scottish charities. He has a broad experience of trust work at the Bar covering public trusts, charitable trusts and private trusts. He also has considerable experience in connection with wills and executry matters, and in connection with company and commercial matters. He has also acted in several important valuation for rating cases before the Lands Tribunal for Scotland, and the Lands Valuation Appeal Court.
He is presently the Vice Chairman of the TrustBar Group. He is also a member of the Faculty Commercial Law Group and of the Faculty Tax Law Group.
Anthony is familiar with and accustomed to receiving instructions on tax and VAT matters directly from chartered accountants, and instructions in valuation for rating and on commercial lease issues directly from chartered surveyors.
