Maurice will act as the secretary of the new Faculty of Advocates Employment Law Group which will provide a focus for members of the faculty who specialise in and are interested in the area of employment law. In addition to Maurice O’Carroll, Brian Napier QC and Ian Truscott QC will act as joint chairmen with James Peoples QC vice-chairman and Aidan O'Neill QC treasurer. Alice Stobart, David Hay, Greg Cunningham, Juliette Casey and Nicholas Holroyd have also joined as committee members of the group which is inviting other members of faculty to join as members.
Mr Napier said: "Apart from providing an employment law focus, the Group will be a vehicle to organise lectures, seminars, conferences and other CPD events covering employment law. We are also planning a number of social events aimed at creating and maintaining professional contacts with other lawyers interested in the field and helping with the exchange of information on an informal basis."
Maurice O'Carroll added: "The bar has a number of special interest groups covering various areas of law and it is a matter of some surprise that there has not been an employment law group until now. We think this is something that is long overdue in this most important area of the law."
