Terra Firma Chambers Ranked Band 1 for Planning, Agriculture & Rural Affairs and Tax in Latest Edition of Chambers & Partners UK

Terra Firma Chambers has again been recognised in the latest edition of Chambers & Partners UK Directory as one of the leading stables at the Scottish Bar.

Terra Firma remains the only stable at the Scottish Bar to be recognised for planning, receiving a Band 1 ranking for the seventh consecutive year: ‘Terra Firma Chambers continues to be the leading Scottish planning and environment stable. It has pre-eminent silks and highly regarded senior juniors, and is able to deliver counsel for any planning inquiry, judicial review or statutory appeal. With members appearing in the most high-profile cases in the field, the stable maintains its excellent reputation for handling matters relating to renewable energy and transport infrastructure projects as well as residential and retail developments… One source states: "Terra Firma is the go-to stable and has the market-leading practice in planning."

The stable was also ranked Band 1 for Agriculture & Rural Affairs:  ‘Terra Firma enjoys a strong reputation in agriculture, planning, tax and property law, and has the strongest concentration of advocates specialising in all aspects of agricultural and crofting law, as well as rural property matters. The stable's breadth of expertise and experience in rural matters covers a host of different areas from rent reviews to agricultural subsidies affecting arable farming and livestock’

TFC were also ranked Band 1 for Tax: ‘Terra Firma is a strong stable with a broad tax offering. It handles all manner of cases including those relating to structuring, corporate tax, capital allowances, PAYE, capital gains and income tax. In addition to Scots law, its members advise on European law in connection with trusts, dividends and double taxation.’

TFC members received 22 individual rankings for their expertise in Administrative & Public Law, Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Civil Liberties & Human Rights, Commercial Dispute Resolution, Company, Construction, Employment, Immigration, Planning, Real Estate Litigation, Restructuring/Insolvency and Tax.  In addition, three members received a further seven individual rankings for their work at the English Bar.  Stable members now have 55 individual recommendations in the current editions of Chambers UK and Legal 500 with 24 members ranked in either one or both.

The excellent service provided by the clerking staff also received special mention: "The clerks are fantastic. When I first approached them looking for an expert they were able to highlight three to four members and help me identify someone with the correct seniority."

"The clerks are excellent, they've always kept me up-to-date with attendance at training courses and they're also very organised. I've had a very positive experience and they are always available even at short notice."

"The stable is our primary port of call and the practice manager, Emma Potter, is very organised and very helpful. If the counsel we are looking for is busy, she is good at coming up with alternatives."

Emma Potter, Practice Manager of Terra Firma Chambers, said: "We are delighted that Chambers UK has recognised our collective expertise in Agriculture & Rural Affairs and Tax with Band 1 rankings.  In addition, we remain the only ranked stable at the Scottish Bar for planning, re-affirming our established position as the market leader in this area of practice.  It is also very pleasing to receive such unequivocal praise for the quality of the clerking service offered by Terra Firma”.
