Terra Firma Chambers’ Douglas Armstrong QC and Alasdair Sutherland will be speakers at the Association of European Lawyers’ (AEL) Extraction of Unconventional Gas and Oil Conference 2015 hosted by Anderson Strathern on Friday 24th April.
There are significant reserves of unconventional gas and oil present throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK. On 28 January 2015 the Scottish Government Energy Minister Fergus Ewing announced that there is to be a moratorium on granting consents for unconventional oil and gas developments in Scotland whilst further research and a public consultation is carried out. That decision came days after the UK Government voted against a moratorium. The UK Government has now agreed not to award any more fracking licences in Scotland. New powers over the industry are due to be devolved to the Scottish Parliament.
As part of the full-day programme exploring the evolving regulatory, economic, environmental and policy landscape, Douglas and Alasdair will jointly present a paper entitled Fracking in Scotland - the implications of recent decisions.
