Aberdeen University Lawyers without Borders’ inaugural International Advocacy Competition has been won by Alistair McDermid who will now join Terra Firma for a week of mini-devilling this summer.

The final was contested by Alistair McDermid and Emma Macmillan with the former ultimately prevailing on behalf of the prosecution.  Terra Firma member and competition judge Fergus Thomson said:

“Both contestants gave strong performances in a closely-fought contest, based upon a fictional war crimes trial scenario.  The judging panel were impressed by the standards of advocacy on display and the AU Lawyers Without Borders  society are to be congratulated. Terra Firma Chambers are delighted to support this event and as part of the prize Alistair will be undertaking a mini-pupillage with them later in 2015."

Aberdeen University Lawyers without Borders is a student society that seeks to support the work of the Parent Organisation, Lawyers without Border, a global group of volunteer lawyers who offer pro bono services to rule of law projects, capacity building and access to justice initiatives.
