Biography:

Steven P Walker is an Advocate, Barrister, Attorney & member of Terra Firma Chambers, Edinburgh. Steven called to the Scottish Bar in 1999, to the Cayman Islands Bar in 2007 and to the English Bar in 2008 and is a member of Selborne Chambers, London.  Steven is a commercial lawyer with a specialisation in international energy, construction & engineering and insurance disputes.

He has been an accredited Mediator since 2003 and became an accredited arbitrator in 2011. He was appointed an ad hoc Advocate Depute in 2007. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the University of Edinburgh in 2009 and an Honorary Lecturer of the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law & Policy, University of Dundee in 2011. He was co-course director and lecturer on the LLM in international arbitration at the University of Edinburgh from 2009-2011.  This course was nominated for an EUSA teaching excellence award in 2010 and Steven was individually nominated for a teaching excellence award in 2011. He is also a lecturer on international arbitration and member of the global academic faculty of one of the world's leading post-graduate natural resource schools, the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee. He was coach to the award winning CEPMLP Mediation Team who won an award at the 6th ICC Mediation Competition in Paris in February, 2011. Steven lectures frequently on energy disputes all over the world.

Early in his career, he spent a sabbatical year working in the international arbitration group of Allen & Overy. He was involved in raising the first ICSID arbitration proceedings under the Energy Charter Treaty. Since then, he has extensive practice and experience of numerous other institutional and ad hoc arbitrations in the UK and worldwide. He is a recognised expert in International Arbitration by the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID) and was instructed by them to advise the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on their national arbitration law. He was also instructed by the United Kingdom Government to act as Counsel for the United Kingdom in International Treaty negotiations before the United Nations, Vienna, Austria.

Steven has recently published the leading international book ‘Pleading in Arbitration - A Practitioner's Guide' published by Sweet & Maxwell/Thomson Reuters 2012.

He was appointed an ad hoc Advocate Depute in 2007 by the Lord Advocate (Head of the Scottish Prosecution Service) and has prosecuted serious offences for the Crown including attempted murder and armed robbery etc. Steven also holds a public appointment from the Scottish Government and sits as a Tribunal Chairman of the PRHP.

Steven practises in the UK and internationally. He resides in London, Scotland and Malaysia.

Steven is also a member of Selborne Chambers, London.
