Biography:

Robert Sutherland specialises in administrative and local government, environmental, housing, property, and agricultural law (in respect of which he has entries in both the current Legal 500 and Chambers UK directories).

He has been involved in a wide variety of arbitrations, planning inquiries, local authority committee hearings and has appeared in cases before the House of Lords, the Court of Session, the Sheriff Courts, the Scottish Land Court, the Lands Tribunal for Scotland, the Social Security Commissioners, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Panel and the Immigration Appeal Tribunal. Robert has also been instructed in waste management prosecutions and statutory nuisance cases under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, summary applications under the Telecommunications Code and a statutory appeal under the Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations 2000.

 

He has been a speaker at a number of conferences concerned with agricultural, crofting, environmental and property law matters.  Recent conferences include the Legislative and Regulatory Changes in the Brownfield and Contaminated Land Sector (Scotland) (January 2008), CLT's Rural Law Update (October 2008) and at recent seminars organised by Terra Firma Chambers (Savills; solicitors in Aberdeen, Oban, Dumfries).
 

Robert’s personal interests include US politics and hill walking.
