Roy Martin QC, a member of Terra Firma Chambers, has been appointed as Counsel to the Stockline Public Inquiry. The Inquiry is being chaired by Lord Gill and is expected to start on 8 April 2008 and to last for 8 - 12 weeks.
Nine people died in the explosion at the Stockline Factory, Grovepark Mills, Maryhill, Glasgow on 11 May 2004, and a further 33 were injured. The inquiry was announced in December 2007 following the conviction of owners and operators ICL Plastics and ICL Tech for health and safety breaches. The terms of reference for the inquiry are: to inquire into the circumstances leading up to the incident; to consider the safety and related issues arising from such an inquiry, including the regulation of the activities at the site; to make recommendations in the light of the lessons identified from the causation and circumstances leading up to the incident; and to report as soon as practicable.
