Terra Firma Chambers is recognised for its collective expertise in all aspects of tax law.

In respect of personal taxation, counsel can advise on matters such as inheritance tax planning, the drafting of wills, and the variation of trusts. Additionally, we can advise on income tax (for employees, on matters such as PAYE, and for the self-employed), as well as capital gains and stamp duty land tax.

In respect of business taxation, our Counsel are experienced in issues pertaining to corporate transactions, including corporation tax and capital allowances, structuring deals, tax issues in share and business sale agreements, land and buildings transaction tax and partnership taxation. A number of our members have particular expertise in the taxation of financial services, the oil and gas industry, and property investment and development. Our Counsel are experienced in advising on indirect taxation, such as VAT and customs duties and regularly advise on VAT planning, particularly with respect to property transactions, and on VAT in the context of corporate transactions.

Members of terra Firma also regularly advise on tax matters in relation to European law. We can advise on international matters relating to trusts, residence and domicile of both individuals and companies, tax matters relating to foreign companies and dividends, and international treaties regulating double taxation.

Our members regularly appear before the tax Tribunals, the Inner House of the Court of Session and various other courts and have been involved in some high profile tax cases in recent years.
