Landlord and Tenant

Leases of all kinds give rise to many questions of interpretation, both in contentious and non-contentious situations requiring skilled advice and representation. Members of Terra Firma Chambers can and do act for parties in cases across the whole spectrum of landlord and tenant relationships, from agricultural tenancies through commercial leases to tenancies of dwelling houses involving public and private sector landlords. Many of these areas are heavily regulated by statute and it is essential for clients to have the benefit of the knowledge and experience which practitioners in this field can offer. Members of Chambers can assist at all stages, from advice on important matters of drafting, advice and representation in the courts, arbitrations, or before rent assessment committees when disputes arise during the course of a lease (such as in the operation of rent review clauses), as well as in relation to the termination of leases. In respect of the latter, sound advice on the form of notices can be critical, as complex claims can arise out of termination which require resolution in court.
